A TALLER MOUNTAIN: EPISODE 7 VIRGINIA WOOLF

  

 In this episode we talk about the great feminist icon, Virginia Woolf. Born in 1882, Virginia was an influential English writer and a central figure in the modernist literary movement. Known for her innovative narrative techniques, such as stream of consciousness, her notable works include A Room of One’s Own, Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and Orlando. Woolf explored themes such as identity, mental illness, and the inner lives of women, profoundly shaping 20th-century literature. In this episode I interview Malu, a student at the Official School of Languages and mention where you can listen to the only surviving recording of Virginia Woolf’s voice.

In this episode we pay homage to a fascinating Irish writer, EDNA O’BRIEN, who died in London last August at the age of 93.  A fearless, outspoken and often controversial figure, O’Brien wrote more than 20 novels, biographies, as well as plays, screenplays and a memoir. I also interview Irene Ruiz, another teacher at the school of languages. Don’t miss it!

 After a few summery months, A TALLER MOUNTAIN IS BACK. And we are delighted because we have to celebrate! What? Not a few things: last 19th of October was WOMEN WRITERS DAY; a woman, HAN KANG, has won the Nobel Prize for Literature; and two women writers have won two Princesa de Asturias Prizes: MARJANE SATRAPI for Communication and Humanities, and ANA BLANDIANA for Literature. HURRAY!

She is the author of the award-winning novels Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah. Her other works include the essays We Should All Be Feminists , Dear Ijeawele or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions, a memoir tribute to her father, Notes on Grief, and a children's book, Mama's Sleeping Scarf. Leonard Cohen

El gran cantante y poeta Leonard Cohen ha muerto en su casa de Los Angeles a los 82 años el lunes 7 de noviembre. Cuando recibió el premio Principe de Asturias de las letras en 2011 contó en un emotivo discurso que su primera guitarra y su primer maestro había sido un español que conoció casualmente en un parque en su Canadá natal. MARATON LITERARIO CALAHORRA ELCHE

El Grup Cultural Ilicità Tonico Sansano de Elche y el Consulado Comarcal de la ONG mundial “Poetas del Mundo” convocan y organizan conjuntamente el “V Maratón de Poesía y Relatos Cortos 2015” que tendrá lugar el viernes 6 de febrero, a las 18′ 30 h de la tarde en la SALA CULTURAL ‘LES CLARISSES’ en el Convento de la Merced de Elche.

Se pide la participación in situ en el evento, de poetas, rapsodas, cuentacuentos, prosistas y narradores no solo de Elche sino de cualquier lugar de España. Un país de llibre

En un moment com l'actual, es fa absolutament necessari reforçar accions per al foment de la lectura i la compra de llibre en valencià. Amb l'objectiu d'oferir eines de difusió adequades al nostre entorn, naix el projecte audiovisual Un país de llibre: un programa de Barret Films patrocinat per l'Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, gestionat per l'AEPV i amb la col·laboració del Gremi de Llibrers de València.

Un país de llibre és un espai televisiu que acostarà als espectadors el món de la literatura en valencià d'una forma entretinguda. 

En cada capítol es presentarà un llibre i el protagonista serà el propi escriptor; consta de 13 capítols de 20 minuts que s'emetran de novembre a març.
